Gandhinagar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two government officials in separate bribery cases in Gujarat and Maharashtra, officials confirmed on Friday. The arrests include an Auditor/Personnel of Integrated Financial Advisor (IFA), Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), Gandhinagar, and the Chief Office Superintendent (OS) of Divisional Railway Hospital, Nanded.
IFA personnel arrested for Rs 3.5 lakh bribe
In the first case, a private company proprietor lodged a complaint alleging that the IFA personnel demanded Rs 4 lakh as an undue advantage to clear a file for issuing a supply order. The amount represented 2% of the bid value of Rs 2.5 crore for CCTV installation at the Air Force Pune base, according to CBI officials.
The CBI laid a trap on September 30 and caught the accused while accepting Rs 3.5 lakh. The official was arrested and produced before the Special Judge, Pune, following transit remand from Ahmedabad, and has been remanded to police custody until October 4.
Railway hospital official caught accepting Rs 20,000
In a separate case registered on September 29 in Nanded, Maharashtra, the Chief Office Superintendent of Divisional Railway Hospital, Hingoli Gate allegedly demanded an undue advantage of Rs 25,000 from a complainant. The bribe was related to processing a pending bill of Rs 91,575 and performance guarantee of Rs 1.25 lakh for a private company handling housekeeping and cleaning contracts.
The CBI laid a trap at the accused’s residence in Nanded and caught him accepting Rs 20,000. Both residential and official premises of the accused were searched by the CBI prior to the arrests.
Ongoing investigation
Further investigation into both bribery cases is underway, and the agency has confirmed that additional action may be taken against other individuals if implicated. The arrests highlight the CBI’s continued efforts to curb corruption in government departments, particularly in defence accounts and railway administration.
