According to police reports today, a violent altercation erupted within Tihar Jail resulting in the stabbing of a prisoner, identified as Hitesh, who is currently undergoing trial for a murder case. Hitesh was promptly transported to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for medical treatment following the incident.
The altercation, which occurred around 11:15 am on Wednesday, allegedly involved Hitesh, affiliated with the Gogi gang, and two individuals from the Tillu Tajpuriya gang, as per an officer’s statement. Sources indicate that Hitesh was attacked with a weapon resembling an ice-pick during the confrontation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vichitra Veer stated, “Following a report received from DDU hospital regarding the injured individual from Tihar jail, local police initiated an inquiry into the matter.” He further mentioned that the assailants, identified as Gaurav Lohra and Gurinder, are subjects of investigation regarding the incident. Hitesh, who has been incarcerated since 2019, sustained injuries and was admitted to DDU hospital for treatment.
The officer noted that both Gaurav and Gurinder are currently facing trials related to murder and attempted murder charges. A case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered based on the severity of Hitesh’s injuries, with investigations ongoing, added the DCP.
This incident recalls the unfortunate demise of gangster Tajpuriya, who was fatally stabbed by members of a rival gang within the same jail premises in May last year.
