Jabalpur, long known for its abundant iron ore reserves, is now making headlines for something far more precious—a newly uncovered gold deposit that could transform the district’s economic landscape.

This exciting breakthrough was made in the Mahgawan Keolari region of Sihora tehsil, following an extensive exploration conducted by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). Geologists had been surveying the area for months, and lab analysis of soil samples revealed the presence of gold, copper, and other valuable elements, nestled alongside the area’s existing iron and manganese resources.

Initial reports suggest that the gold-bearing land spans nearly 100 hectares, and experts believe the reserve could amount to several lakh tonnes. If further verified, this discovery could rank Jabalpur among India’s top mineral-rich districts, drastically altering its economic prospects.

A senior GSI official confirmed the findings, stating that chemical testing has provided strong evidence of significant quantities of gold and other strategic minerals. He emphasized, “The analysis proves the existence of gold and copper. This could mark a turning point in central India’s mining sector.”

While this is not the first gold-related find in Madhya Pradesh—the Katni district reported similar deposits in recent years—the scale and significance of the Jabalpur site make it a standout development in the state’s mining narrative.

The discovery is expected to boost local employment, attract investment, and spur infrastructure growth if mining operations commence.
