Kannur: A goods vehicle driver was injured after a car rammed into his vehicle at Eripuram near Pazhayangadi on Thursday morning, triggering a chain collision involving three vehicles and disrupting traffic for several hours.

The accident occurred at around 8.30 am on the KSTP road when a goods vehicle travelling from Pazhayangadi attempted to enter a petrol pump.

Chain collision after vehicle hit from behind

According to preliminary information, a car coming from behind collided with the goods vehicle as it was turning into the petrol station.

The impact caused the goods vehicle to lose control and crash into another car approaching from the opposite direction, resulting in a three-vehicle collision.

The driver of the goods vehicle, identified as T.P. Nassar, sustained injuries in the accident and was rushed to Kannur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

No other serious injuries were reported.

Traffic disrupted for several hours

The accident led to heavy traffic congestion on the busy KSTP road, with vehicular movement coming to a standstill for several hours.

Police and local residents worked to clear the damaged vehicles from the road and restore normal traffic flow.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision.

Second accident in the area this week

The latest mishap comes just two days after another accident was reported at the same location.

On Tuesday, a lorry that reportedly went out of control crashed into a building near Eripuram, raising concerns among residents over road safety in the area.

Frequent accidents on this stretch have prompted locals to demand measures to improve traffic management and prevent further mishaps.
