The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced that linking mobile numbers with vehicle registration certificates (RCs), driving licences, and Aadhaar cards is now mandatory.

The initiative is aimed at creating a seamless digital system where citizens can receive all updates related to traffic violations, e-challans, vehicle registration and renewal, licence renewal, and vehicle sales directly on their mobile phones.

According to officials, messages are already being sent through the ‘Parivahan’ portal, instructing driving licence holders to verify and update their mobile numbers using Aadhaar authentication. The ministry has emphasised that Aadhaar verification is now compulsory for availing a wide range of transport-related services.

Mangaluru Regional Transport Officer Sridhar Mallad explained that linking mobile numbers ensures accuracy, quick access, and timely delivery of critical information. Citizens are urged to complete the process at the earliest to avoid disruption in services.

To simplify the procedure, the government has enabled updates through its official portals Parivahan (parivahan.gov.in) and Sarathi. Once completed, users will receive verified updates regarding services such as renewal reminders, challan details, and vehicle ownership transfers.

Steps to link mobile number via Parivahan portal:

  1. Visit parivahan.gov.in
  2. Select “Update Mobile Number via Aadhaar”
  3. Enter vehicle registration and chassis/engine number
  4. Authenticate using Aadhaar OTP

This integration aims to make India’s transport governance more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly.
