Hyderabad: In a landmark moment for Indian martial arts, Grand Master Shaswat Kumar, founder of Senkoukai Karate, has been conferred with two of the highest honours from Japan, cementing his reputation as a pioneering global martial arts leader.

Prestigious recognition from Japan

The International Bujutsu Karate Association (Headquarters, Japan), under the leadership of Grand Master Masaki Watanabe (10th Dan Black Belt), awarded Shaswat Kumar the “God Blessed Warrior Award” along with the title of “World Martial Arts Icon.” The honours were given in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to practical combat and the development of martial arts worldwide.

In addition, the All Japan Martial Arts Organization, led by President Soke Yoshimoto Tanaka, bestowed upon him the title of “God of Real Combat Karate”, also referred to as the “Father of Real Combat Karate.” This rare recognition acknowledges Kumar’s lifelong dedication, discipline, and pioneering approach in evolving karate beyond tradition into real-world application.

Senkoukai Karate: a unique system

Grand Master Shaswat Kumar is the creator of Senkoukai Karate, an independent and modern karate system that blends the philosophies and techniques of Shotokan Karate, Kyokushin Karate, and advanced combat martial arts. The name “Senkoukai” was given by Japanese Master Hirofumi Kuroki.

Unlike conventional karate schools that focus primarily on form, Senkoukai Karate was developed to tackle real-life street combat situations. Inspired by the rise of social injustices and violence, Kumar designed the system to empower practitioners with practical self-defence skills and survival strategies.

A philosophy rooted in empowerment

Speaking on his recognition, Shaswat Kumar said, “Receiving these dual honours from Japan not only means recognition as one of the most respected martial arts masters of the modern era, but also highlights my pioneering role in evolving a combat-effective karate style aimed at the protection and empowerment of society.”

His system goes beyond competitive sport, focusing instead on the broader mission of self-defence, justice, and resilience in society.

Conclusion

The honours mark a historic milestone for India, positioning Grand Master Shaswat Kumar as one of the leading martial arts icons of the 21st century. By blending traditional Japanese martial philosophies with modern combat realities, his work continues to influence and inspire martial artists globally.
