CHUNGATHARA: In a deeply tragic incident that has left an entire village in mourning, a 48-year-old man died shortly after his father’s passing at a hospital in Erumamunda on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Puthenpurackal Thomas (78) and his son Tens Thomas (48), both residents near the Erumamunda Village Office in Chungathara.
Thomas had been battling cancer for the past seven months. On Tuesday morning around 11 a.m., his condition deteriorated and he was taken to a private hospital. Despite immediate attention, he collapsed shortly after admission and was declared dead.
Upon receiving the devastating news, Tens, who had been away on tapping duty, rushed to the hospital. While arrangements were being made to shift his father’s body to another facility in Chungathara for the official death declaration, Tens too collapsed without warning. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically died on the way.
The sudden double loss has shocked the local community. Both bodies were later moved to Chungathara hospital for legal formalities.
Thomas is survived by his wife Eliyamma. Their only son, Tens, leaves behind his wife Nisha and three sons — Abhishek, Ajith, and Ayan.
Final rites for the father and son will be held at their residence on Wednesday at noon, followed by burial at St. Alphonsa Church, Muttiyel.
