Banaskantha: A head teacher from Pancha Primary School in Banaskantha, Gujarat, has continued to receive her salary from the state government despite residing in the United States for the past eight years. The issue was uncovered by Gujarat Samachar, following complaints from students and local residents.

The teacher, identified as Patel, has been living in Chicago since 2013 and holds a US green card. Despite her absence from the school, Patel remains listed on the school’s payroll. Students from the fifth grade reported that they last saw Patel when they were in the third grade, highlighting her extended period of non-attendance.

Reports indicate that Patel returns to Gujarat during the Diwali holidays, a period when the school is closed. However, even during these visits, she does not engage with the school or its students. This pattern of absence and lack of engagement has raised concerns among the local community.

The situation was brought to the attention of Parul Mehta, the in-charge principal of the school, who reported the matter to the taluka education officer, district education officer, and the state education minister. Despite these notifications, no significant action has been taken against Patel.

The primary education officer confirmed that Patel had visited the school in January last year and has been on unpaid leave since the beginning of this year. A show-cause notice has been issued, and disciplinary action is being considered.

The ongoing issue has raised concerns about the management and oversight within the education system in Gujarat. The failure to address the situation has sparked discussions about the need for improved administrative practices and accountability in the education sector.

The case of the absent teacher receiving a salary despite her prolonged stay abroad underscores the need for more stringent oversight and efficient management within the educational administration. Authorities are expected to take necessary actions to resolve the issue and ensure accountability.
