A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Madhur near Kasaragod on the morning of May 30, as a 39-year-old expatriate, Sadiq from Karippody, Palkunnu, tragically lost his life after being pulled away by surging flood currents.

Sadiq had recently come back from the Gulf and was living with his wife at their hometown. On Friday, he ventured out on foot to visit a nearby relative when the unfortunate event took place. He was accompanied by his brother-in-law, Moythu, who managed to survive the ordeal without harm.

According to locals, Sadiq slipped while trying to cross an open, rain-soaked field near Patla Moger. The region had been battered by relentless downpours, leading to the Madhuvahini River overflowing and inundating surrounding low-lying terrain.

The force of the swollen waters proved too strong, sweeping Sadiq away within moments. Emergency services, along with concerned residents, promptly launched a search mission. His body was eventually discovered not far from where he disappeared.

Sadiq’s sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over his family and community. Ironically, he was scheduled to travel back abroad for employment in the coming days, making the incident all the more tragic.

Following a post-mortem at the Kasaragod District Hospital, his remains were handed over to his family for final rites. Authorities have urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas during periods of heavy rainfall.
