Bhopal: As the Lok Sabha elections draw closer, there have been a lot of shifts and switches between parties, as usual. This time around, it has been reported that Gunvant Patidar has left the BJP.
While it is common for politicians to switch parties due to changing ideologies or opportunities, Patidar’s split is not so common as he has reportedly alleged that he has suffered harassment by the police at the behest of the BJP.
Patidar told News18 that as the ruling party failed to help the distressed farmers, he quit the party three days ago. He accused the Modi government of not fulfilling the promises made during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He also said that he had filed a complaint with the district collector and the SP on Monday, October 24 stating that he had received threatening and abusive calls from the SHO of Narayangarh on October 21 and 22.
He then reportedly threatened to move the court if the district administration did not take action on his complaint.
Mandsaur Collector O P Shrivastava has reportedly admitted that a complaint was received from Patidar and added that the politician had also filed an online complaint with the Election Commission of India. He then assured that an inquiry into the matter would be conducted.
Although Patidar has denied the possibility of him joining the Congress party, he said that he would consider extending his support to any party, including the Congress, that makes concrete promises for farmers.
