GURUGRAM: In a tragic road accident early Saturday morning, five youths lost their lives and one was critically injured after a Mahindra Thar overturned near Exit 9 of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway close to Rajiv Chowk. The accident occurred around 4:30 am when the speeding vehicle lost control and collided with the highway divider at Jharsa, police said.

Fatal crash on NH-48

The Thar, carrying six passengers — three women and three men — was travelling from Uttar Pradesh to Gurugram on a work-related trip. The impact of the crash caused the SUV to overturn multiple times.

Emergency services and police from Sector 40 station rushed to the spot, but doctors at the hospital declared five dead on arrival. The sole survivor, Kapil Sharma (28), from Bulandshahr, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Victims identified

Police released the details of the deceased as:

  • Pratibha Mishra (25) – daughter of Judge Chandramani Mishra, resident of Raebareli, UP. She was a final-year law student in Noida.

  • Aditya Pratap Singh (30) – resident of Agra, UP.

  • Gautam (31) – originally from Sonipat, Haryana, currently living in Greater Noida.

  • Lavanya (26) – resident of Shastri Puram, Agra, UP.

  • Soni – identity and address yet to be confirmed.

  • This group had reportedly come to Gurugram for official work.

The death of Pratibha Mishra, daughter of a sitting judge, has left her family in shock.

    Police statement and investigation

“The deceased and injured were travelling in a Thar registered in Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle was overspeeding and lost control at the exit. We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving, and investigations are underway,” a Gurugram police spokesperson said.

    Road safety concerns

The accident has once again raised questions over overspeeding on highway exits. Authorities stressed the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better safety measures on busy stretches like Rajiv Chowk to prevent similar tragedies.
