A woman in Gurugram has been booked for allegedly cheating a cab driver by refusing to pay the fare after an hours-long ride and threatening him with police action, officials said on Tuesday
Cab ride turns into dispute
According to police, the complainant, cab driver Ziauddin, said the passenger—identified as Jyoti Dalal—booked a ride at around 8 am and asked to be taken to multiple locations, including Sector 31, the bus stand and Cyber City.
Ziauddin alleged that during the trip, Dalal asked him for money, and he gave her ₹700. “She ate and drank at various places, and I paid for everything,” he said. When he later asked her to settle the fare and end the ride, she allegedly became aggressive.
Threats and police station episode
The driver further claimed that Dalal threatened to frame him in false cases of theft or molestation. He said she went to the Sector 29 Police Station and created a ruckus.
After Dalal left, Ziauddin narrated the incident to police officials. During the preliminary inquiry, police realised that the woman had allegedly been involved in similar incidents earlier.
Previous complaints surface
Police said Dalal had earlier conned a salon of ₹20,000 and refused to pay ₹2,000 to another cab driver. In February 2024, a video of her arguing with a cab driver over fare had gone viral on social media.
FIR registered, arrest likely
“We have registered an FIR against Jyoti Dalal under fraud and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A probe is underway, and she will be arrested soon,” said Ravi Kumar, Station House Officer of Sector 29 Police Station.
Police said they are verifying previous complaints to determine the extent of the alleged cheating and to take further legal action.
