A viral video showing what appeared to be a human hand dangling from the trunk of a moving car in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, stirred panic and triggered widespread speculation on social media. Many feared a possible abduction or foul play, with the clip quickly gathering millions of views.
The incident occurred on Monday around 6:45 pm, when a vigilant motorist behind the car recorded the footage and alerted authorities. Promptly responding, the Navi Mumbai police traced the Innova vehicle (MH01/DB7686) to Ghatkopar, only to discover that the shocking visual was part of a staged promotional video.
Investigations revealed that three young men were behind the stunt, attempting to film an attention-grabbing reel for a laptop store promotion. Their aim was virality—but it came at the cost of public concern and a police case.
The Sanpada Police took action under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for reckless driving and creating public nuisance. The individuals involved admitted that the scene was fabricated for content creation.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Navi Mumbai Police confirmed the findings and issued a caution to content creators:
“Social media fame should not come at the expense of public safety and law.”
This incident underlines the growing risks of viral stunts, urging youth to act responsibly and avoid creating fear-inducing or disruptive content.
