Gurgaon: Authorities in Haryana have escalated efforts to curb mass cheating in board exams, implementing rigorous strategies such as aerial surveillance, barricaded perimeters, armed security, and surprise inspections. Despite a steady drop in reported cases—from 5,064 in 2015 to 1,087 in 2024—dishonest practices remain widespread.

During a recent Class 10 exam in Nuh, officials discovered 34 fake candidates sitting in place of actual students. Some were impersonating for money, while others were stepping in for family members. Law enforcement has strengthened its presence at high-risk centers, deploying mobile patrols and conducting random checks to deter violations.

Security has been tightened to unprecedented levels. Police officers are stationed on rooftops, drones are monitoring exam halls, and barriers have been erected to prevent outsiders from smuggling answer chits. In certain locations, students were required to remove their footwear before entering exam rooms.

To eliminate any loopholes, the state has classified over 580 out of 1,400 exam centers as high-risk, assigning additional observers to ensure fair proceedings. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently took decisive action, suspending 25 police officers, including senior officials, for their alleged involvement in assisting cheaters. FIRs have also been filed against multiple invigilators.

With mounting pressure on students and authorities alike, Haryana is leaving no stone unturned to restore integrity in board examinations.
