In a shocking case of domestic violence, 25-year-old Radhika Yadav, a state-level tennis player, was fatally shot by her father at their home in Gurugram’s Sector 57 on Thursday morning.
According to Gurugram Police, the incident happened around 10:30 am after a heated argument erupted over a video reel Radhika had posted on social media. Investigators said her father, angered by the post, retrieved his licensed revolver and fired three consecutive shots at her.
Radhika was rushed in critical condition to a private hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of Gurugram Police, confirmed that the weapon used was a licensed firearm recovered from the house. “Initial investigation suggests the disagreement over a social media reel escalated into fatal violence,” Kumar said.
Rajender Kumar, Station House Officer of Sector 56 Police Station, added that police were informed by the hospital. “When we reached, she had already died. Family members’ statements indicated the father was responsible,” he noted.
Radhika, who was ranked 113 in International Tennis Federation (ITF) doubles, had represented Haryana in several state-level competitions.
In a separate incident in Gurugram, a man strangled his wife after a domestic dispute and later surrendered to police.
The back-to-back tragedies have raised concerns over rising domestic violence cases in the region.
