A day after Gurvinder Singh was shot dead in broad daylight outside the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Mohali, his wife has spoken about the persistent threats he had allegedly been receiving from gangsters for nearly two years.

Gurvinder Singh was an accused in the murder case of Gurlal Brar, cousin of gangster Goldy Brar.

Threats forced couple to leave Mohali

Speaking to reporters outside Civil Hospital Phase 6, where her husband’s post-mortem was being conducted, Amarjit Kaur said Gurvinder had been living under constant fear.

“I met Gurvinder in 2023. When the threats started, he left Mohali and shifted with me to Gurdaspur,” she said.

According to her, the threats intensified after Gurvinder became linked to the high-profile murder case. For the past one-and-a-half years, he had been residing in Gurdaspur, returning to Mohali only for court hearings.

“I never let him come alone”

Amarjit Kaur said she was deeply worried about her husband’s safety and ensured he was never alone during his visits.
“Because of the threat, I never allowed him to come alone. I accompanied him every time,” she said.

Despite these precautions, Gurvinder was shot dead on Wednesday in a shocking incident that occurred close to the SSP office, raising serious questions about security and the reach of organised crime.

Investigation underway

Police have launched an investigation into the killing and are examining possible links to gang rivalry and previous threats. Security footage from the area and call records are being analysed.

The killing has sparked outrage in Punjab, with opposition leaders and local residents questioning how such a brazen murder could take place in a high-security zone.
