Heavy monsoon rain continued to lash several parts of India on Monday, disrupting air and rail travel, inundating roads and prompting weather alerts in multiple states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of more intense rainfall in the coming days, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious.
Flights and trains affected
Poor visibility and persistent rain disrupted flight operations, with several flights delayed or diverted. Major airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air and SpiceJet, issued travel advisories asking passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Rail services also faced significant disruption. A landslide in the Karjat–Lonavala ghat section affected the crucial Mumbai–Pune route, leading to train cancellations, diversions and delays. Suburban train services continued to operate with minor delays despite challenging conditions.
Waterlogging disrupts daily life
Heavy rainfall left several roads waterlogged, slowing traffic and affecting normal life. Authorities advised people to avoid low-lying areas and remain indoors during periods of intense rain. Schools, colleges and examinations in some affected regions were postponed as a precaution to ensure public safety.
IMD urges caution
The IMD has issued weather alerts for several regions, warning of continued heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Civic agencies remain on high alert as emergency teams work to clear flooded roads, remove fallen trees and restore essential services. Residents have been advised to monitor official weather updates and avoid travelling unless necessary.
