A late-night car accident in Yerwada has triggered public outrage after a disturbing video of the crash went viral on social media, once again highlighting concerns over reckless and alleged drunk driving in the city.
Car crashes into shop near dargah
The incident occurred late Sunday night near the Sadal Baba Dargah area. According to preliminary information, a car travelling at very high speed lost control and rammed into a roadside shop in the busy locality. The driver is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
One person sustained serious injuries in the crash, while the shop and nearby property suffered extensive damage.
Eyewitnesses describe rash driving
Local residents and eyewitnesses said the vehicle was being driven rashly through Yerwada despite the late hour. As the car approached a turn, the driver reportedly failed to control the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and crash violently into the shop.
The impact led to panic in the area, with residents rushing to the spot within minutes after hearing the loud crash.
Video fuels public anger
Footage of the accident, now widely circulated online, has intensified concerns about repeated incidents of high-speed and negligent driving in Pune. Several locals have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and tougher action against drivers who put lives at risk.
Residents said such incidents are becoming increasingly common and fear that innocent pedestrians and shopkeepers are being endangered due to lack of deterrence.
