KOTTAYAM – A 17-year-old Plus Two student suffered a gruesome assault at the hands of junior students in the hostel of Model Government Higher Secondary School. The shocking incident, which took place on the night of February 18, resulted in a portion of the student’s ear being severed.
According to the victim’s family, tenth-grade students brutally beat him up, leading to severe injuries. They further alleged that hostel authorities, including the warden, attempted to cover up the attack instead of seeking immediate medical help. The student, hailing from Kunnamkulam, had to endure a three-day delay in receiving plastic surgery due to the school’s negligence, the family claimed.
Following their complaint, Child Line officials recorded the student’s statement and initiated an inquiry. Meanwhile, the hostel warden defended the institution, stating that they were unaware of the altercation in time and ensured the injured student was taken to the hospital promptly.
The incident has sparked outrage, with concerns raised over hostel safety, student discipline, and administrative accountability. Authorities are now investigating the attack and the alleged delay in medical intervention.
