In a landmark initiative aimed at promoting women’s entrepreneurship, the Andhra Pradesh government is establishing 200 shops at Mypadu Center under the Nellore Smart City project. Announcing the move on Sunday, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Dr Ponguru Narayana, declared the initiative a key step in empowering women across the state.

Speaking to members of the MEPMA (Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas) women’s group, the minister said that supporting women’s economic self-reliance is a core objective of the government. Each selected woman entrepreneur will receive a bank loan of ₹2 lakh, while an additional ₹1 lakh per person will be contributed by the minister from his personal funds.

“My dream is to see every woman transform into a business owner,” he said. “These shops are your stepping stones. If they are misused or handed over to others, we will reclaim them. They exist solely for your progress.”

Preparations for the container-style shops are in progress, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is expected to inaugurate the Smart City initiative within the next 20 days.

The MEPMA beneficiaries warmly welcomed the announcement, especially the minister’s personal contribution of ₹2 crore for business support. They described the gesture as a powerful step toward financial independence and respect.

The gathering also saw the participation of MEPMA project director Leela Rani, ex-municipal chairperson T. Anuradha, and senior officials from the mission.
