Hyderabad Doctors Perform Rare Kidney Surgery On Infant Using Made In India Robotic Machine

Hyderabad: In a groundbreaking procedure, doctors at Preeti Urology Kidney Hospital performed a rare kidney surgery on a one-year-old boy using a robotic machine developed in India. The child, Bharat, born to Rajendranagar residents Govind and Uma, was suffering from bilateral kidney swelling, a condition that, if untreated, could severely affect kidney function. His health had deteriorated further due to a serious urinary infection.

Dr. V Chandra Mohan, Chief Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon at the hospital, explained that the decision to proceed with a robotic-assisted surgery was made urgently, given the severity of the situation. “We opted for the advanced SSI mantra robotic system, which is indigenously developed, to perform surgery on both kidneys simultaneously,” he said.

In light of the family’s financial constraints, the doctors performed the surgery at a significantly reduced cost. The surgery was completed successfully, and Bharat was discharged just a day later after a quick recovery.

Doctors emphasized the benefits of robotic surgery, including minimal risk, reduced hospitalization time, and fewer chances of recurrent anesthesia exposure compared to traditional laparoscopic methods, which involve multiple incisions and longer procedure times.
