A 46-year-old man, Chittaboina Damodar, from Secunderabad, was arrested for allegedly procuring, storing, and selling expired and adulterated Nandini milk powder. Authorities seized 780 kg of the unsafe product during a raid in Musheerabad.
The milk powder, originally meant for the Karnataka government’s Ksheera Bhagya Scheme under the Public Distribution System (PDS), was found being sold to unsuspecting customers at inflated prices despite being unfit for consumption. Reports revealed Damodar bought the expired powder from Ravi, a Karnataka native, at Rs 180 per kg and sold it for Rs 240 per kg, earning significant illegal profits.
Acting on credible intelligence, the central zone task force team, in collaboration with Musheerabad police, raided a local godown, arresting Damodar. Investigations also uncovered his history of similar offenses, making this a repeat violation.
This incident follows an earlier operation on October 8, where the Task Force raided Konark Tea’s premises in Fatehnagar, Hyderabad. There, they uncovered large-scale adulteration of tea powder, which was mixed with harmful substances and distributed to tea stalls across the city.
These cases highlight growing concerns over food safety, with authorities urging vigilance to curb such illegal activities that jeopardize public health.
