Hyderabad Police selects 44 transgender individuals as traffic assistants
In a groundbreaking initiative, 44 transgender individuals successfully cleared the physical efficiency tests to be selected as traffic assistants in the Hyderabad Traffic Police Department. The Telangana government’s decision to recruit transgender candidates as traffic assistants follows Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s directive to include the transgender community in such roles, recognizing their contribution to society.
A total of 58 transgender candidates attended the recruitment event held at Goshamahal Police Ground on Thursday, organized by the Hyderabad Police in coordination with the Social Welfare Department. The candidates participated in an 800-meter running race, long jump, and shot-put competitions, with 44 of them emerging successful.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand addressed the candidates, urging them to be role models for their community and to bring pride to the Hyderabad Police and Telangana State Police Departments. A senior police official mentioned that the candidates who passed the physical tests will undergo medical and background checks before being shortlisted for a six-month pilot program.
The recruitment is open to transgender individuals aged 18-40 with a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and a government-issued personal identity card. Applicants must also reside within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits.
