Hyderabad: A 37-year-old software professional died after allegedly jumping from the sixth floor of an apartment building while carrying her six-month-old daughter in Hyderabad’s Miyapur area. The infant survived the fall and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, where doctors have said the child is out of danger.

Woman dies, infant survives fall

The deceased has been identified as Isha Sahu, a resident of an apartment complex in Miyapur. According to police, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon when she allegedly jumped from the sixth floor while holding her six-month-old daughter, Vani.

While the woman succumbed to her injuries, the infant survived after reportedly landing on a protective fence before falling to the ground.

Residents of the apartment complex immediately rushed the child to a nearby hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment. Doctors have stated that the baby sustained minor injuries and remains in stable condition.

Family members were inside the apartment

Police said the incident was reported at around 3:45 pm on Friday.

Isha, originally from Madhya Pradesh, lived in Hyderabad with her husband and their two daughters. The couple had been married for 11 years.

At the time of the incident, other family members were reportedly inside the apartment.

The tragedy has left relatives, neighbours and residents of the housing complex shocked.

Police cite possible mental health concerns

According to police sources, the woman had reportedly been experiencing severe insomnia, anxiety and symptoms associated with post-partum depression in recent months.

Officials stressed that the investigation is still at a preliminary stage and that all aspects of the case are being examined.

“We have registered a case and launched an investigation. Preliminary inquiry indicates that the woman was undergoing mental stress, but the exact circumstances are being verified,” a police official said.

Investigators are also reviewing medical records and speaking with family members to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Baby escaped a fatal outcome

Police said the infant survived due to what they described as a fortunate sequence of events during the fall.

“The infant survived after landing on a fence structure before reaching the ground. The child is stable and receiving medical care,” a police source said.

Doctors treating the child have indicated that the baby is out of danger and is expected to recover.

Investigation underway

Officers from the Miyapur Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. A preliminary inquiry was conducted and the body was shifted for post-mortem examination.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and further details are expected after statements are recorded and relevant evidence is examined.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of recognising and addressing mental health concerns, particularly among new mothers facing emotional and psychological challenges after childbirth.

Conclusion

The death of Isha Sahu has left her family and community grieving, while the survival of her six-month-old daughter has been described as miraculous by residents. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are awaiting further information from family members and medical experts.
