In the midst of a debate around actors’ widely shared deepfake videos, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that deepfakes pose a serious threat to India’s system and have the potential to destabilize society. He declared, “I saw a fake video of me playing garba but I haven’t played garba since school,” pleading with journalists to inform the public about “deepfake.”
