New Delhi: Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya, lashed out at senior Supreme Court lawyer Indira Jaising for suggesting that she should pardon the men who gang-raped her daughter.
Speaking to the media, a raged Asha Devi said, “It is because of people like her (Jaising) that victims don’t get justice.”
She also expressed how she couldn’t believe how Jaising could even suggest such a thing.
“I will never forgive them (the convicts) for what they did to my daughter. Even if God comes before me and asks me to forgive them, I will never do it,” she said.
It can be recalled that on Friday, Jaising had asked Asha Devi to forgive her daughter’s rapists, citing Sonia Gandhi as an example. Gandhi had forgiven Nalini, a convict in her husband, Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case.
The death row convicts, Vinay, Akshay, Pawan and Mukesh will be hanged on February 1, for the gang-rape of Nirbhaya in a moving bus in New Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012. The incident sparked nation-wide outrage and protests, however, it took seven long years for the convicts to get the death warrant.
