New Delhi: Indian Air Force (IAF) bases in Jammu, Kashmir, and Punjab have been put on high alert after intelligence inputs suggested the possibility of a suicide attack on one of the bases by Pakistani terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
Sources informed India Today that a Jaish terror cell comprising 10 terrorists were planning to execute the suicide attack. One source said, “They would probably move to the Dhangu-Pathankot region in Punjab to collect money through wireless transfer. A part of this group could also be located in Jammu and Kashmir.”
As a result, the IAF has issued an “orange alert” to its bases in Srinagar, Awantipur, Jammu, Pathankot, and Hindan.
It can be recalled that Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh had recently alleged that Pakistan was airdropping ammunition, including grenades, near Punjab’s borders in a letter addressed to the Central Government.
In response to Singh’s letter, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Whatever be the challenges to national security, our jawans are capable of combating and defeating them, be it the Army, the Air Force or the Navy.”
Intelligence sources speaking to India Today said that new camps have been emerging in the PoK region. They also suggested that Jaish is looking to carry out Uri-style attacks on India’s military installations based on communication intercepts.
