The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has introduced a dynamic outreach program named ‘Jigyasa’, aimed at making scientific research more accessible to the general public. Led by the institute’s Academic Outreach Office, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between advanced scientific work and everyday life by bringing researchers into public forums.
As part of this initiative, faculty and students will present their ongoing research across science institutions and broader community venues. The primary goal is to simplify complex scientific ideas through engaging, informal discussions, helping people understand how research impacts areas such as healthcare, energy, environment, and technology.
Officials explained that Jigyasa is designed for **everyone—not just scientists—**including students, parents, teachers, and curious minds with no formal science background. Through storytelling and real-life examples, presenters aim to make frontier science more relatable. These sessions also foster dialogue, encouraging people to ask questions and build a sense of connection with the scientific community.
The inaugural event took place on National Technology Day at JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad. It featured engaging lectures by Sushil Kumar Tomar, the university’s vice-chancellor, and Maithili Sharan of IIT Delhi’s Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, who discussed India’s nuclear journey and the role of indigenous technologies.
The event also included interactive exhibitions and a panel discussion on Artificial Intelligence by Chetan Arora, highlighting whether AI should be seen as a tool for replacement or enhancement of human intelligence.
