IITian Baba Abhay Singh’s journey from a top engineering student at IIT Bombay to a seeker of spirituality has captured the fascination of citizens across India. Abhay’s academic life is a testament to his intellectual capabilities. He scored an impressive 93% in his 10th-grade board exams and 92.4% in his 12th exams, setting the stage for his remarkable academic career. With his exceptional performance, he gained admission to IIT Bombay, where he pursued a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering. His success continued with an All India Rank (AIR) of 731 in the 2008 IIT-JEE exam, making him one of the brightest students in the country.
Upon graduating in 2012, Abhay had all the prospects of a lucrative career ahead of him. He joined a high-paying job in Canada, earning a salary of Rs 36 lakh per annum. Despite the wealth, Abhay felt unfulfilled and began questioning the true purpose of life. Material success failed to provide him the peace he was seeking, prompting him to abandon his prosperous career and embark on a spiritual journey.
Before fully committing to his spiritual path, Abhay indulged in other creative pursuits, including a Master’s in Design (MDes) and photography. His exploration of philosophy, particularly the works of Socrates, Plato, and post-modernist thinkers, played a significant role in shaping his spiritual outlook.
This transformation came as a shock to many of his old friends, including Gaurav Goyal, a former classmate from IIT Bombay. Gaurav recalled Abhay as the epitome of a top student, excelling in academics and destined for a successful career. To hear that Abhay had chosen spirituality over a promising future left many baffled.
Abhay’s personal life also adds a unique dimension to his story. Reflecting on his past relationship, he revealed that a lack of understanding between his parents had made it difficult for him to cultivate healthy romantic relationships. He expressed that having grown up in an environment filled with negative examples of relationships, he struggled to comprehend what a healthy relationship looked like.
