Music legend Ilaiyaraaja faced an unexpected turn of events during his visit to the Srivilliputhur Aandal Temple in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Sunday evening. The renowned composer was at the temple to release his musical composition, “Divya Pasuram,” but was asked to step out of the temple’s garbhagriha (sacred chamber) where the deity resides. Ilaiyaraaja was accompanied by Sadagopa Ramanuja Iyer and Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar of the Sri Andal Jeeyar Mutt during the visit. However, the temple authorities halted their progress inside the sanctum.
The Srivilliputhur Aandal Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, revered holy sites dedicated to Lord Vishnu, with a rich history linked to the Tamil poet-saint Aandal from the 7th century. The incident has raised questions, but as of now, the temple authorities have not issued an official statement explaining their actions.
