India Cancels Visas for Pakistani Nationals After Pahalgam Terror Attack
In a significant diplomatic move following the deadly terror strike in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday instructed all states to revoke visas issued to Pakistani nationals. The directive came during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and attended by chief ministers from across India.
The April 22 attack, claimed by Lashkar-e-Taiba’s proxy outfit The Resistance Front (TRF), resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 people. In response, India has intensified its counter-terror measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and expelling Pakistani military officials.
According to sources cited by India Today, state governments have been asked to swiftly identify Pakistani citizens within their jurisdictions, cancel their visas, and ensure their departure. The Uttar Pradesh administration has already begun deporting Pakistani visitors who entered on tourist or medical visas. However, no orders have been issued regarding long-term visa holders.
Hotels and lodges across several states, including UP, have been directed to closely verify guest IDs and immediately alert authorities in case of any suspicious activity.
Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara emphasized the need to act against individuals living illegally in India, calling for their removal and strict surveillance.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha urged Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to intensify operations targeting the terror network. “Every individual behind this act must be brought to justice,” he declared.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also visited Kashmir to meet victims and grieving families. Singer Arijit Singh canceled his upcoming Chennai concert as a tribute to the victims.
