On May 7, 2025, India will carry out an extensive nationwide mock exercise across 244 districts to test its preparedness for potential war situations. Known as Operation Abhyas, the drill is designed to simulate scenarios such as airstrikes, power blackouts, evacuations, and rescue operations. The drill follows growing political tensions and recent attacks like the Pahalgam terror strike.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has mandated this nationwide simulation to evaluate the country’s response to external threats, ensuring citizens and authorities are ready for an emergency situation. The drill will be held across major cities and rural areas alike, with activities ranging from air raid sirens to simulated blackouts.

Key drill details:

  • Delhi: The drill will be from 4 PM to 7 PM.

  • Jhansi (UP): Starts at 4 PM at Reserve Police Lines.

  • Bareilly (UP): A 10-minute blackout from 8 PM to 8:10 PM.

  • Kerala: Mock drills in 14 districts, beginning at 4 PM.

  • Visakhapatnam (AP): Air raid simulation at 4 PM, followed by blackout at 7 PM.

  • Dehradun (UK): Sirens at five locations starting at 4 PM.

  • Kalpakkam (TN): Mock drill at Madras Atomic Power Station from 4 PM to 4:30 PM.

  • This exercise is part of India’s broader strategy to improve national safety and preparedness. It aims to boost awareness and readiness among citizens and government agencies in case of an unexpected crisis or conflict.
