New Delhi: India Post will roll out 24-hour and 48-hour Speed Post services starting January 2026, Communications and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced, aiming to strengthen the postal network and redefine express mail delivery across the country.
Faster delivery services
The new Speed Post services will guarantee delivery within 24 or 48 hours depending on the destination, a major enhancement over the existing timelines. Scindia stated that this initiative would benefit both individual customers and businesses, making postal services more competitive and reliable.
In addition to these services, India Post is preparing to introduce eight new products across its mail, parcel, and international verticals next year. These measures are part of a broader effort to modernise the postal system and integrate it with digital and logistics advancements.
Digital and infrastructural upgrades
The Minister also highlighted India’s recent achievements in technology and cybersecurity:
- India’s ranking in the Network Readiness Index 2024 improved from 60th to 49th globally.
- India entered Tier-1 in the Global Cybersecurity Index with a score of 98.49/100.
He emphasised that alongside faster postal services, the government is strengthening digital infrastructure, fraud prevention mechanisms, and efficient telecom services to support economic growth.
Benefits for citizens and businesses
The enhanced Speed Post services will particularly benefit e-commerce players, small businesses, and individuals sending time-sensitive documents across the country. Scindia stated that these initiatives demonstrate India Post’s commitment to customer-centric, efficient, and modern postal services.
Conclusion
With the launch of 24- and 48-hour Speed Post and new products next year, India Post is set to transform its services and improve reliability, bridging the gap between traditional postal operations and modern logistic demands.
