India strongly criticized Pakistan’s persistent references to Jammu and Kashmir during a United Nations Security Council debate on peacekeeping reforms.
Addressing the forum, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, condemned the unwarranted statements, reaffirming that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. He asserted that Pakistan’s repeated claims hold no legitimacy and accused Islamabad of sponsoring cross-border terrorism.
“Once again, the Pakistani delegate has attempted to divert discussions towards a narrow, divisive agenda. These baseless references do not justify their illegal occupation or their support for terrorism,” he stated.
The sharp response followed remarks by Syed Tariq Fatemi, the Special Assistant to the Pakistani PM, who raised the Kashmir issue during the UN debate.
Ambassador Harish further stated that Pakistan must vacate the illegally occupied regions of Jammu and Kashmir and urged Islamabad to stop misusing international platforms.
India has consistently maintained that it seeks peaceful relations with Pakistan, but insists that any dialogue is contingent on Islamabad eliminating terrorism and hostility.
In a recent podcast interview, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled his diplomatic outreach to Pakistan, including inviting Nawaz Sharif to his 2014 swearing-in ceremony. He emphasized that every peaceful initiative was met with betrayal and urged Pakistan to choose the path of stability.
