New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives caused by devastating floods in Nepal.
Modi conveys India’s solidarity
In a post on X, Modi said the people of India stand in solidarity with their “sisters and brothers” in Nepal during the difficult period.
He expressed grief over the loss of lives and assured Nepal of India’s support as the neighbouring country continues to deal with the aftermath of the floods.
India ready to provide humanitarian assistance
Modi said India is prepared to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal.
He also said Indian teams are coordinating closely on rescue and relief efforts, signalling India’s readiness to support operations as Nepal responds to the disaster.
Neighbouring nations face shared challenges
The floods have caused widespread devastation in Nepal, with deaths and disappearances reported across the affected Himalayan region. The disaster has also raised concerns in neighbouring parts of India because rivers originating in Nepal flow downstream into Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
India and Nepal share close social, cultural and geographical ties, and the response to the disaster highlights the importance of cooperation during emergencies.
