An Indian national has died in Riyadh following recent developments on March 18, the Embassy of India in Saudi Arabia confirmed, expressing condolences and assuring full support to the bereaved family.

Embassy extends support to family

In an official statement, the Indian mission said it is in constant touch with the deceased’s family and local authorities. It reiterated its commitment to providing all necessary assistance, including coordination with Saudi officials.

“The Embassy of India expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic demise of an Indian national in Riyadh,” the statement noted, adding that efforts are underway to handle all formalities.

Rising concerns amid regional conflict

The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in West Asia, with ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Missile and drone strikes in the Gulf region have raised safety concerns for expatriates, including Indian nationals residing in affected countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that a total of six Indian nationals have lost their lives in separate incidents across the region, while one individual remains missing.

Government coordinating repatriation efforts

According to MEA officials, Indian missions in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates are working closely with local authorities to locate the missing person and facilitate the repatriation of mortal remains.

Additional Secretary (Gulf) Aseem R Mahajan stated that all missions are actively engaged to ensure timely assistance and support to affected families.

Travel situation gradually improving

Authorities also indicated that travel from the Gulf region is steadily stabilising. Since February 28, nearly 3 lakh passengers have returned to India as additional flights continue to operate.

Airlines, particularly from the UAE, are running limited non-scheduled services based on safety considerations, with around 90 flights expected to operate on a given day.

Continued monitoring and assistance

The government has assured that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation and will continue extending consular support to Indian nationals in the region.

The tragic death underscores the vulnerabilities faced by expatriates during times of geopolitical unrest, prompting calls for continued vigilance and diplomatic engagement.
