Passengers on a Gulf Air flight from Mumbai to Manchester, stranded at Kuwait airport for over 19 hours, described severe distress, citing a lack of food, water, and assistance. Their ordeal began following an emergency landing due to an engine fire.

The Indian embassy in Kuwait promptly addressed the situation, as confirmed via a post on X, stating they had engaged with Gulf Air and deployed a team to aid passengers. A chaotic video circulating online shows passengers in heated discussions with airport officials.

Travelers alleged unequal treatment, claiming accommodations were provided only to European Union, UK, and US passport holders. Indian and Pakistani nationals reportedly faced neglect. Arzoo Singh, a stranded passenger, shared that lounge access was granted only after hours of requests and appeals. Basic necessities like blankets, food, and water were initially denied.

The embassy clarified that efforts to secure hotel accommodations were hindered by the GCC Summit, which had occupied nearby facilities. Additionally, Indian citizens are ineligible for Kuwait’s visa-on-arrival policy.

After extended delays, the flight eventually departed for Manchester at 4:34 am on Monday. Passengers expressed frustration over conflicting information and prolonged uncertainty. Singh recounted seeing smoke from the engine mid-flight and described passengers sitting on the airport floor for hours without support.

Gulf Air has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
