TVER, RUSSIA – A young Indian medical student lost her life in a tragic road accident in Russia’s Tver city after being hit by a fast-moving vehicle.

The victim, identified as Shreya from Karnataka, was a first-year MBBS student at Tver State Medical College. On the fateful day, she had stepped out to buy groceries when she attempted to cross a busy road. A 33-year-old man driving a Skoda at high speed collided with her.

Emergency responders arrived within minutes, but despite their swift intervention, she was declared dead on-site due to severe injuries. Reports suggest that she did not use the designated pedestrian crossing, which may have contributed to the accident.

Shreya had enrolled in the medical program last year and resided at a student hostel on Furmanova Street. The head of the international students’ association expressed profound grief over her untimely demise and urged all students to adhere to road safety measures.

Authorities have detained the driver for questioning, and an investigation is underway. Meanwhile, Shreya’s body has been sent for postmortem examination.
