
Indian Student Killed by Stray Bullet in Canada, Family Seeks Help to Bring Her Home
NEW DELHI: The tragic death of 21-year-old Indian student Harsimrat Kaur Randhawa in Canada has sparked an outpouring of grief and urgent appeals from her family for help in bringing her body back to India.
A student at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, Harsimrat was fatally struck by a stray bullet while waiting at a bus stop on her way to work. The shots were reportedly fired from a passing vehicle during an altercation between two parties.
Her grandfather, Sukhwinder Singh, said the family received the devastating news through relatives. “She was simply standing by the road when a bullet hit her,” he said.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa in Hamilton, Ontario,” it stated. Authorities confirmed she was an innocent bystander, caught in crossfire.
Hamilton Police responded to reports of gunfire near Upper James Street and South Bend Road. Harsimrat was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and rushed to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. A homicide investigation is currently underway.
The Indian mission has assured the family of full support and coordination with Canadian authorities. Both the Centre and the Punjab government have been urged by the family to expedite efforts to bring her body home for final rites.
