An Indian national has died after he and three other Indian tourists reportedly lost consciousness at a cafe in Thailand’s Phuket, prompting an investigation by Thai authorities.
The incident reportedly took place in the Kamala Beach area of Kathu district during the early hours of Saturday.
Four tourists reportedly collapsed at cafe
According to local reports, five Indian tourists had arrived together at a cafe around 11 pm on Friday night.
Security staff at the cafe told police that around 1.54 am, four members of the group allegedly began losing consciousness one after another.
All four were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Thai authorities later informed police that one of the tourists had died while undergoing treatment. The remaining three individuals are reportedly in stable condition.
Indian Embassy monitoring incident
Embassy of India in Thailand confirmed the death in a statement posted on X.
“Our deepest condolences for the death of one young Indian tourist among them,” the embassy stated.
The mission said embassy officials are in touch with the deceased tourist’s family and are extending all necessary support during the difficult time.
Officials also confirmed that they are coordinating with Thai authorities and closely monitoring the condition of the remaining tourists.
Cause of incident still unclear
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the cause behind the tourists losing consciousness have not yet been officially confirmed.
Thai authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
