New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday intensified his criticism of the Union government over the NEET-UG controversy and demanded the immediate removal of Dharmendra Pradhan over the issue.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi alleged that students had been let down and criticised the handling of the controversy, while also questioning the response of the government. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action or assume responsibility for the matter.
The remarks come amid ongoing political reactions and concerns following developments surrounding the NEET-UG examination process.
Rahul Gandhi targets government over examination issue
Rahul Gandhi stated that lakhs of students had spent considerable time preparing for the medical entrance examination and alleged that their efforts had been affected by developments related to the examination process.
He claimed that students had worked continuously over a prolonged period in preparation for the examination.
The Congress leader also alleged that information relating to the examination had been circulated before the scheduled test.
He further criticised the government’s handling of the issue and called for stronger action against those responsible.
Allegations raised over education administration
During his criticism of the issue, Rahul Gandhi accused Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of not accepting responsibility for the developments.
He alleged that recommendations made by a committee were not acted upon and raised broader concerns regarding decision-making processes.
Rahul Gandhi also made allegations regarding institutional functioning and appointments within educational systems.

Claims made regarding examination irregularities

Government had announced re-examination
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), conducted for admissions to medical courses, had earlier been cancelled following reported irregularities in the examination process.
The decision led to reactions and protests from different sections across the country.
Authorities subsequently announced that a re-examination would be held on June 21.
