As of June 5, 2025, India has recorded 4,866 active Covid-19 cases, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Kerala tops the list with 1,487 active cases, followed by Delhi (562) and West Bengal (538).

Other notable figures include Maharashtra (526), Gujarat (508), Karnataka (436), and Tamil Nadu (213). States like Uttar Pradesh (198), Andhra Pradesh (50), and Rajasthan (103) also report active infections. Smaller numbers are seen in Punjab (16), Odisha (18), Bihar (31), and Himachal Pradesh (1). Union Territories such as Chandigarh (2) and Puducherry (17) also reported minor case counts.

On the positive side, seven regions — Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands — have zero active cases.

However, the fatality pattern highlights a serious concern — individuals with existing health conditions face greater risk. In Delhi, fatalities included a five-month-old infant with congenital issues and an 87-year-old man with chronic diseases. Karnataka reported deaths of a cancer patient and another individual with serious abdominal complications. Maharashtra lost three patients, all elderly with comorbidities such as heart disease, diabetes, and organ failure.

Globally, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United States remain among the countries with the highest case numbers.

Public health experts continue to urge caution, especially for vulnerable groups. A poll is underway asking citizens if pre-existing conditions are a significant factor in severe Covid outcomes.
