Indore: As the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections are underway, Indore Parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a very interesting trend.
According to the latest reports, NOTA has secured 202,212 votes in Indore, next only to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Shankar Lalwani who has secured 11,60,627 votes.
The count is expected to increase as the votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are still being tallied. Introduced over ten years ago, NOTA allows voters to express dissatisfaction with all candidates running for a specific seat.
Over 138,000 votes were cast for NOTA by 12:15 PM, making it the second most popular choice after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Shankar Lalwani, who had received over 7,74,000 votes. Sanjay Solanki of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) came in third with more than 32,000 votes. Interestingly, the Congress party had encouraged voters to choose NOTA after its candidate Akshay Kanti Bam withdrew from the race at the last minute and joined the BJP.
