MADURAI: Displaying extraordinary resilience, 16-year-old P Dinesh appeared for his Class 11 Tamil exam from a stretcher after suffering severe hip and leg injuries in an accident. With the help of a scribe, he completed the test at Madura College Higher Secondary School.
Determination in the face of adversity
Dinesh, a bright student from Virathanoor, was injured on July 22, 2024, when a bus ran over him while he was hitching a ride to school. After undergoing multiple surgeries at Government Rajaji Hospital, he remained determined to continue his studies.
His mother, Thenmozhi, a single parent, left her job at a rice mill to care for him. Despite his condition, Dinesh was eager to appear for the exams, with his school offering full support, including home classes.
A setback before the exam
Initially preparing to write from a wheelchair, Dinesh suffered another injury when he was accidentally dropped while being lifted. The medical board at Government Rajaji Hospital swiftly certified his condition, allowing the school to arrange a scribe for his exam.
A dedicated student with a Class 10 score of 420/500, Dinesh aspires to become a doctor, proving that his spirit remains unshaken despite the hardships.
