State-owned telecom equipment manufacturer ITI Ltd. has secured an ₹856.39 crore contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to expand the telecom operator’s indigenous 4G network across western India.

The project involves the deployment of 4G infrastructure at 7,613 new sites and further strengthens ITI’s role in supporting the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in the telecom sector.

Contract covers over 7,600 new 4G sites

According to the company, the turnkey contract includes planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of BSNL’s 4G mobile network across the West Zone.

The latest order also includes saturation sites funded under the Digital Bharat Nidhi programme, aimed at extending mobile connectivity to underserved areas while promoting the use of indigenous telecom equipment.

The announcement boosted investor sentiment, with ITI shares rising to an intraday high of ₹302.40 on Thursday, ending a two-day losing streak.

Builds on earlier BSNL project

The new contract follows the successful completion of BSNL’s Phase IX.2 4G rollout by ITI in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

That ₹2,640 crore project covered the deployment of 4G infrastructure at 23,633 sites across Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and the Mumbai Licensed Service Area.

ITI said the fresh order reinforces BSNL’s confidence in the company’s execution capabilities and its contribution to India’s self-reliant telecom ecosystem.

Company executing major broadband projects

ITI Chairman and Managing Director Rajesh Rai described the contract as a significant milestone and said the company remains committed to supporting India’s indigenous telecom initiatives.

Apart from the BSNL 4G rollout, ITI is currently executing BharatNet Phase III projects worth around ₹7,000 crore for BSNL across Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The latest order is expected to accelerate BSNL’s 4G expansion while strengthening digital connectivity across western India.
