Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the fire tragedy at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.

“The loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” PM Modi said in a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X.

The fire, which broke out late Sunday night in the Trauma ICU of the state-run hospital, claimed six lives and left several others injured.

CM Bhajanlal Sharma reviews situation, orders swift relief measures

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the hospital on Monday morning and directed officials to ensure immediate relief and adequate medical care for those affected.

“The incident of a fire breaking out at the trauma centre of Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur is extremely unfortunate. Upon reaching the hospital, I gathered information from doctors and officials and issued instructions to ensure swift relief efforts,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X.

He added that the situation is being continuously monitored and assured that “every possible step is being taken for the safety, treatment, and care of patients.”

Mourning the deaths of six people, CM Sharma said the state government stands firmly with the affected families. “May Lord Shri Ram grant place at His divine feet to the departed souls. The state government is committed to providing every possible assistance,” he added.

Deputy CM joins review; inquiry ordered

Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa, who accompanied the Chief Minister during his hospital visit, also expressed condolences and said he reviewed the relief and rescue operations with the hospital administration.

“The incident of a fire breaking out late tonight at the trauma centre of Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur is extremely heartbreaking. Along with the Chief Minister, I reached the spot, assessed the situation, met the patients and their families, and ensured proper care,” Bairwa said on X.

According to police officials, the fire — believed to have been caused by a short circuit — claimed six lives. The Rajasthan government has constituted a six-member committee headed by Iqbal Khan, Commissioner of the Medical Department, to investigate the cause of the incident and assess lapses in safety measures.
