A young man from Jaipur was inconsolable after losing his phone in a waterlogged street, following relentless rainfall that pounded the Rajasthan capital.
The incident happened near Ramniwas Bagh, a busy central area, where Haldhar, a resident of Subhash Chowk, slipped while navigating his Activa scooter through knee-deep water. As he fell, his mobile phone slipped into the murky floodwater and disappeared.
Despite wading through the stagnant water and searching frantically for over an hour, Haldhar couldn’t recover it. Overcome with frustration and grief, he broke down in tears, blaming the authorities for failing citizens by allowing chronic flooding.
Footage captured by bystanders and shared widely on social media shows Haldhar sobbing as he combs the submerged road, calling out for his lost phone. The video has since gone viral on X, triggering a wave of empathy and offers of help from viewers across India.
One user commented, “How do I contact him? I’d like to buy him a new phone and help with any repairs for the scooter.” Another wrote, “This is heartbreaking. Authorities must act to fix this mess.”
Locals confirmed the area near Ravindra Manch has long struggled with poor drainage and faulty road levelling. Even moderate rainfall leaves hidden potholes several feet deep, turning the road into a hazard zone.
According to IMD, Jaipur and other districts recorded heavy downpours, with Nasirabad in Ajmer logging 163 mm of rain in 24 hours.
