Srinagar : According to officials, a tragic incident occurred on the Jhelum river near Srinagar city, where a boat carrying school children and locals overturned. Reports suggest that there may be individuals still unaccounted for. Muzaffar Zargar, medical superintendent of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital, confirmed that four fatalities have been recorded, while three others are currently under medical care due to the capsizing of the boat.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has initiated rescue efforts, with early reports indicating that 12 children have been successfully rescued and are receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility. However, concerns remain for the safety of others who may be missing.
Local sources have indicated that heavy rainfall resulted in a swift current in the Jhelum river, complicating the journey of the boat which was transporting children from Gandbal to Batwara in Srinagar.
