On Wednesday, an encounter in the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the deaths of two Army officers. A heavy shootout ensued following a cordon-and-search operation in Dharmsal’s Bajimaal district. Fighting the terrorists who had cornered them caused injuries to another official.

The encounter broke out late on Wednesday morning with two terrorists trapped in the exchange of fire. The joint team comprises personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Army and Police.

“A team of security forces was on a search operation in Baji Maal forest area of Rajouri when contact was established with terrorists and a firefight erupted,” officials had stated.

The development also came mere days after a terrorist was killed during an encounter with joint team of security personnel in Rajouri. A Cordon and Search Operation had led to an encounter in the Behrot area of of Rajouri’s Budhal on November 18.

According to a police spokeswoman, the terrorist had started shooting from inside a house as the security guards were approaching the target. From the scene of the encounter, further items found included a pouch, three magazines, three grenades, and one AK-47 weapon.
According to locals, there has been a search and cordon in place since Sunday in an effort to find terrorists that may be working there.

“We were ordered to stay inside and not go outside due to the operation. Our kids didn’t go to school; they stayed home,” a villager told PTI.

According to him, the firing is occurring in the nearby wooded region.
