Ranchi: A former MLA affiliated with the BJP in Jharkhand took matters into his own hands and administered a punitive action against a young man who was allegedly involved in creating inappropriate videos of women during their bathing routines.
The video captures Devendra Kunwar, the former legislator from Jarmundi, instructing the young man to perform sit-ups and carry out demeaning actions. Ultimately, Kunwar kicks the young man, who is visibly distressed in the footage.
This incident of harsh punishment occurred within the context of a “kangaroo court” convened by Kunwar during a village assembly (gram sabha) meeting. Shockingly, some onlookers can be observed supporting the punishment and recording the event.
In response to the widespread circulation of the video, Kunwar dismissed it as “politically motivated” and contended that it had been misinterpreted. He justified the punishment by claiming that the young man had been caught filming women bathing and that the villagers had taken matters into their own hands by bringing him before the gram sabha for judgment.
Devendra Kunwar, who has maintained ties with Babulal Marandi, had previously contested elections in Jharkhand. He ran on a Jharkhand Vikas Morcha ticket in 2009 and 2014, both times suffering defeat. In the 2019 election, Kunwar switched to the BJP ticket, but once again faced defeat.
